Natalie Clarke represented a student nurse at Wrexham Police Station who was arrested for obstructing a police officer and assaulting a police officer (2014).

HG had intervened during the police arrest of another person. She did so because she thought the arrest was unjustified and the police were using excessive force during the arrest. This was a serious and distressing case for HG because convictions for those offences would have had a detrimental effect on her future nursing career.

HG was fully advised regarding the extensive case law on this subject and her defence was carefully advanced in interview. Further representations were made to the police after she was released on bail. After considering those representations, the police and CPS agreed to drop the investigation and HG’s case was diverted from prosecution. As a result, no conviction or caution was recorded against her.
