The firm:

  • Brunskill is a boutique firm that practises in the heart of Spinningfields in central Manchester
  • The firm has traditionally operated in the areas of crime, fraud, professional discipline, regulatory, coroner’s inquests and public inquiries
  • We have a new and developing practice involving civil liberties, claims against the police / public authorities, and judicial review
  • Cases are high quality, high value and complex. Many have a significant media profile

The vacancy:

  • A qualified solicitor is required to work on the firm’s cases and to act as the firm’s legal aid supervisor
  • The solicitor will also be required to supervise and manage other staff (subject to the level of the solicitor’s own experience)
  • This is an outstanding opportunity to work on some very high-quality cases and to step into a management role
  • The position is part-time but there is scope for increased work (if wanted) as our caseload develops

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor with solid experience of actions against the police and claims against public authorities
  • Must either meet the LAA supervisor requirements or be capable of doing so in the near future
  • Good management and communication skills
  • Ability to supervise other staff

Responsibilities:

  • Running a caseload from inception to conclusion, including investigatory and pre-claim work
  • Obtaining expert evidence, Drafting letters of claim and pleadings, settlement negotiations and litigation as appropriate
  • Supervisory role
